Role Overview

CGI is seeking a skilled Senior API Test Engineer with strong experience in API automation and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) using Cucumber. The ideal candidate should be proficient in building scalable automation frameworks and validating microservices-based architectures.

Your future duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and execute API test scenarios using Cucumber (BDD approach).

Write feature files (Gherkin syntax) and implement step definitions.

Perform functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end API testing.

Build and maintain API automation frameworks using tools like Rest Assured + Cucumber / Karate / Postman.

Validate REST and SOAP APIs, including request/response, headers, and status codes.

Work closely with product owners, developers, and QA teams to translate requirements into BDD scenarios.

Perform data validation using SQL queries and ensure backend data consistency.

Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / GitLab CI / Azure DevOps).

Maintain test reports using tools like Cucumber Reports / Extent Reports.

Identify, log, and track defects using JIRA / Azure DevOps.

Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint deliverables.

Mentor junior team members and enforce QA best practices.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role

Required Skills

6–8 years of experience in software testing, with strong focus on API automation

Hands-on experience with:

Cucumber (BDD framework)

Rest Assured (Java preferred)

Postman / SoapUI

Strong expertise in:

Gherkin syntax (Given-When-Then)

Writing reusable step definitions

Strong knowledge of:

RESTful APIs & SOAP services

JSON / XML validation

HTTP protocols and methods

Programming skills in Java (preferred) or Python

Experience with test frameworks like TestNG / JUnit

Database knowledge with strong SQL skills

Experience with authentication mechanisms (OAuth2, JWT, etc.)

Hands-on experience in CI/CD integration

Understanding of microservices architecture

Preferred / Nice to Have

Experience with Karate DSL (BDD-style API testing)

Knowledge of performance testing tools (JMeter)

Experience in Docker / Kubernetes environments

Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS / Azure)

Experience with contract testing (Pact)

Domain experience in Banking / FinTech / Healthcare

Educational Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
